Q: How do we find out what we owe?

A:A billing statement for your student is available on the myZou student center on or around the 20th of each month and due on the 15th of the following month. If the 15th of the month falls on a weekend or holiday, then it is due the previous business day. The billing statement will show the total amount due or the minimum payment that is due.  Student myZou username and Password must be entered to access the online bill.  You may also contact the Cashiers Office by going to 15 Jesse Hall in person, or calling (573) 882-3097.

Q: How do we pay for tuition/fees?

A: If your financial aid award does not cover all tuition and fees, you may pay the semester total, or pay a minimum payment through an installment plan. The minimum payment is automatically figured on your bill. The University will assess a 1% monthly finance charge on the unpaid portion of the billed balance for all student accounts, and $10 late payment fees are assessed if not paid by the due date. To avoid the finance charge and late payment fees, you should pay your billed balance in full by the scheduled due date. You may also Contact Cashiers at (573) 882-3097 with questions regarding your payment options.

Q: How do we verify payment for tuition/fees?

A: Students can check up to date account information the myZou student center. You may also go to the Cashiers Office in person at 15 Jesse Hall, or call the main Cashiers’ number at (573) 882-3097 and speak to an accounts receivable representative. Refer to the University’s Privacy Policy regarding the release of information.

Q: How does my student enroll for classes at MU?

A: If your student is an incoming freshman or transfer student:
  • She/he should register for classes during Summer Welcome.
  • Students should also submit the New Student Registration and Orientation Form for a partial academic schedule.
  • If your student cannot attend Summer Welcome, she/he should meet with their academic advisor concerning registration.
  • New students needing assistance with registration can call the Office of the University Registrar at (573) 882-7881.
If your student is a continuing student:
  • An early registration period is available during the semester, or regular registration begins one week prior to the semester for which they are enrolling.
  • Continuing students should meet with their academic advisor concerning registration.
  • Continuing students may register online through the myZou student center any time during open registration.

Q: Is my student required to register for a minimum number of credit hours?

A: Yes, undergraduate students receiving financial aid from our office are expected to enroll in at least 12 credit hours for the fall and winter semesters. If students have a special circumstance that will require enrollment in fewer credit hours, they should let their financial aid advisor know. They can provide the information by calling (573) 882-7506, emailing, or writing our office.

Q: How and when will my student receive their financial aid?

A: Students must have completed all processes required in order for their funds to be released at the beginning of the semester.

  • Students should first check their financial aid status on the myZou student center .
  • Financial aid funds available to be released will be applied first to any outstanding University balances, such as tuition/fees and on-campus housing. Any amount left over will be issued to the student. Students are encouraged to set up direct deposit into a checking or savings account. They can either set up direct deposit on the myZou student center, or through the Cashiers office. If the credit is from a parent loan, a check will be issued to the parent.

Q: How do we pay for Room and Board?

A: This depends on the student’s living arrangements.

  • On-campus housing will be billed through the Cashiers Office and appear on the student’s billing statement. If the student is in on-campus housing and receiving financial aid, his/her awards may cover the entire housing balance. All available funds will be applied to the entire semester housing charge.
  • Sorority and fraternity houses are considered off-campus housing and are not included on the student’s billing statement. Any remaining financial aid funds released after all University balances are paid can be used for these expenses.

Q: How does my student buy books?

A: Students will buy their books at the University Bookstore located in Brady Commons.

  • Students can use the financial aid released to them or if their financial aid is not yet available, students can charge their books to their University account using their student ID. Only students who are financially enrolled may use their student ID to charge items at the bookstore.
  • For more information, please contact the University Bookstore at (573) 882-7611, or visit their web site at www.mubookstore.com

Q: How will my student receive his/her outside scholarship funds?
A:
Typically funds are sent directly to MU.

  • If the student is receiving an outside scholarship, these funds may already be included with other financial aid funds released to the student.
  • If the student receives scholarship funds directly from the donor, he/she will need to notify our office to make sure he/she meets the donor’s requirements.
  • Make sure the student’s ID number is on any correspondence you send to our office.
