FAFSA Information
How much does it cost?, Where can I obtain a FAFSA?, How does Mizzou receive my FAFSA information?

The Department of Education utilizes the information you provide on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to determine your eligibility for federal student aid. Many states, including Missouri, also use the FAFSA to determine your eligibility for state student aid programs. Mizzou will also use the FAFSA form to determine your eligibility for need-based institutional aid.

You must reapply each year. We strongly recommend that you adhere to the priority deadlines set by Mizzou and the state of Missouri. Doing so will ensure that you are given maximum consideration for your eligibility in all the most desirable financial aid programs. Mizzou's priority deadline is March 1. The state of Missouri's priority deadline is April 1.

How much does it cost?
As the name implies, filing the FAFSA is FREE! There are no fees to process the FAFSA, whether you file by paper or electronically. Beware of companies who charge a fee to file your FAFSA for you.

Where can I obtain a FAFSA?
We encourage everyone to complete and submit a FAFSA on the web via FAFSA On The Web. Since this electronic process utilizes built-in edits and checks, the number of potential errors in completing your FAFSA is greatly reduced. If you (and your parent if you are classified as a dependent student) have already obtained a Personal Identification Number (PIN) from the U. S. Department of Education, you may submit your FAFSA entirely electronically - no need to print and mail a signature page! To obtain or check your PIN status, visit www.pin.ed.gov.

You can also obtain, complete, and mail a paper version of the FAFSA. The FAFSA is available in early December of each year from most colleges, universities, local public libraries, and high school counselor offices. That application can be used for the following academic year, which here at Mizzou includes the fall, spring, and summer semesters. You cannot submit the FAFSA until after January 1. You must reapply each year.

How does Mizzou receive my FAFSA information?
The result of your FAFSA information is electronically sent to Mizzou provided you listed Mizzou's Federal School Code on your FAFSA. The FAFSA will allow you to list up to 6 different higher education institutions to receive your information. Every higher education institution has its own Federal School Code. Mizzou's Federal School Code is 002516.
